Maryland PhotograpHERS Night Out | A Maternity Workshop
I always love the chance to collaborate with other photographers. It gives me the chance to gain new perspective, challenge my creativity, and find new inspiration. Since I am teaching or experimenting, I have the freedom to try new things and incorporate different styles in a laid-back atmosphere. It’s a great way to motivate each other, branch out, and have fun while doing it. Plus, I always enjoy meeting other photographers and hearing their own stories. And I love sharing my knowledge and helping others on their photography journey!
Recently, I co-hosted a maternity photography workshop with Helen Don Photography. We styled two beautiful and very sweet mamas-to-be who graciously allowed attendees to photograph them (and their precious bumps) in elegant dresses we specially picked out for the event. We wanted a boho-inspired look as well as a more formal elegant look. They did a great job showing off their adorable bellies for our attendees.
The atmosphere was causal as we posed our models, talked about lighting, camera settings, gear, and so much more. We taught participants on how to help their expecting clients to feel comfortable and beautiful during their session while giving examples on poses that help show off expecting mothers in the best, most flattering poses. We also offered guidance about lighting for outdoor sessions, helping them determine how to use the available natural light to their advantage. I had a great time guiding attendees through the process of this outdoor maternity session at a gorgeous sunset location.
We had a lovely evening making new friends and creating beautiful portraits for these mother's during a special time in their lives. As a bonus, the attending photographers received a posing guide, maternity prep guide, and an editing video to use for their own businesses. After this magical evening, I can’t wait for the next event!
