Best Place to Store Your Photos? Apple vs. Amazon vs. Google?

Hoping to finally load your family’s photos and videos into an efficient photo management system this year? Here’s a quick comparison of a few of my favorites:

Amazon Photos vs. Apple Photos vs. Google Photos

Pricing Comparison:

Amazon Photos:
100 GB for $1.99/month
1 TB for $6.99/month
2TB for $11.99/month

With Amazon Photos, photo storage is free for Prime members. Do keep in mind, you only have access to 5GB of video storage before needing to upgrade.

Google Photos:
100 GB for $1.99/month
1 TB for $9.99/month
2 TB for $19.99/month

Google Photos offers free unlimited storage for photos and videos at a compressed size (I do not recommend this for your family archive). If you decide to go with Google’s free plan or have been using it thus far, please note that Google will be ending this offering on June 1st, 2021.

Apple Photos:
50 GB for $0.99/month
200 GB for $2.99/month
2 TB for $9.99/month

Apple Photos offers a free storage plan of 5GB, however this is shared with everything else on your iCloud (photos, notes, text messages, contacts, etc.).

 Quick Considerations:

  1. All three of these platforms offer similar features like facial recognition, geo-tagging, chronological organization, album creation and more.

  2. If you are solely using Apple devices (iPhone, iPads, Mac computers) then Apple Photos is the better option for you. The only thing you have to do is turn on iCloud Photos in your mobile device settings and everything in your Photos app will sync to the cloud automatically.

  3. If you use PC and Apple devices, Amazon or Google will be the better option for you.

  4. Both Amazon and Google Photos require you to download a second app, however the apps allow for automatic uploads to the cloud, enabling you to free up storage space on your device.

  5. Google Photos offers an easy “Free up space” button that will delete pictures from your phone after they are uploaded to the cloud.

  6. Amazon allows Prime members to save their pictures for free at full quality, while Google’s free option compresses them.

  7. Amazon and Google Photo libraries are accessible on almost any type of device, whereas Apple Photos is native only to iOS (though you can still login to your iCloud account on any web browser).

  8. If you have a lot of videos or are not already a Prime member, Apple Photos or Google Photos might be a better fit.

When selecting your photo management system, there are several important factors that you should consider. We encourage you to take a closer look at the features of AmazonApple and Google.
